Re: Ferdinands from St. Louis
I was in touch with a lady called Marion on another board http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=surnames.ferdinandhttp://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=surnames.ferdinand where there are a number of Ferdinands surnames in the US which may well be connected - it seems to be the correct area.
They do not appear to be connected to the Ferdinand, Ferdy and Ferdinando names in the UK at the moment although we did have some migration to the US, it was not until quite recently - early to mid 20th Century. However, we are still researching the name and you never know what we might turn up in the future.
The Ferdinands we have recorded in the UK are (we believe) mis transcriptions in the records especially the Census and some of the Parish records.
It is interesting to again hear the connection with the Spanish and Irish background. It is one that I've heard before through my own family folklore.I have started an area on my web site http://www.ferdinando.org.ukhttp://www.ferdinando.org.uk looking at this.I have also noted that some of it would be unlikely given the history of certain periods of time when these we meant to have taken place.
There is not really a lot more I can add about the Ferdinands in the US at present, I don't know if Marion can assist you further, you should find her messages on the address link above.
