Hi Deb!
I've been poking around on a Benjamin Lewis Fernald of Yarmouth MA. He spelled his name Furnell. But his descendants mostly went by Fernald. Two of his sons moved to PA and made shoes.
I am wondering if it's possible, that he may be the minor child mentioned in John's original will of 1773. If he was no longer a minor in 1782 at the final deposition of the Will, he would be a good candidate for researching. If he was still a minor in 1782, he is still a possibilty, but he would have been old enough to marry in 1787 to Jedidah Baker of Yarmouth, Barnstable, MA. So he may be a little young.
I have:
John Fernald and Meriam Lewis m. abt 1759
son John was born abt 1761
dau Miriam was born abt 1767
son James born between 1768-1772
and son Benjamin born between 1769 and 1773
so, based on Miriams age, if Benjamin was born about 1769 he could have been about 18, a litle young, but still possible, if it is he who married Jedidah Baker.
There is a 6 year gap between John's estimated birth and Miriam's. Is it possible Miriam was born before 1767?
I am certainly making leaps in my thinking, but the Lewis name seems too much of a coincidence to ignore!!!
I've posted my findings so far on Benjamin Furnell's descendants in the genforum.
Thanks!!
Bob
