"- John Ferry pr b 1739 Brancepeth DUR ENG, m 1769 Dorothy Young.
This last generation is probable:
- William Ferry pr b 1696 Brancepeth DUR ENG, m 1731 Mary Noble"
I was close following the above line - "probable" was right, but off by one brother.
John Ferry c 16 dec 1739 Brancepeth DUR (son of William Ferry 1696 and Mary [Noble] of Stockley Brancepeth DUR. Witnesses: George Wilkinson, George Martindale, and Jane Shaw), m 1765, Hannah Theaker.
John Ferry b 24 May 1735 Brancepeth DUR (son of George Ferry b 1699 and Mary [Charlton] of Stockley. Witnesses: Wm. Ferry, Ralph Ferry & Eliz. Cawood), m 1769 Dorothy (Young?), d 24 Feb 1802 Cornsay, Lanchester, DUR.
William Ferry b 1696 d 1746, and George Ferry b 1699, both described as of Stockley in their childrens births, were, according to the Watson family tree at Ancestry.com, brothers - sons of John Ferry and unknown.
Honor [Ferry] Roper and husband Paul Roper (m 1714) appeared as witnesses at baptisms of both William and George Ferrys children in 1730's. Paul Roper appeared as witness at George Ferrys 1732 marriage to Mary Charlton. A Ralph Ferry also appears with Honor at one 1732 baptism as well as the above baptism.
Now I need to further investigate John Ferry m 1769 Dorothy (Young?).
William Ferry b 1780 is son of John Ferry and Dorothy. The only marriage I have been able to locate is 1769 Brancepeth to Dorothy Young, but that leaves an 11-year gap before William 1780 was born. I have located a few candidates for siblings: George 1772, Elizabeth 1774, and a John 1777, but they are only listed online as children of John Ferry - no mother listed. The Brancepeth records scans for this period are not yet online.
It appears Elizabeth 1774 may not have married and d 1866 Cornsay.
More as it happens.
