Fields Family Cemetery, Dale County, Alabama
I am looking for an old Fields family cemetery.Bartholomew Fields died near Ozark in Dale County, Alabama, in 1845.He was a Revolutionary soldier. His son Alexander died in 1850.Both of them owned land just southwest of the city of Ozark.I believe the cemetery may be in the vicinity of where Lakeview Road (County Road 29) intersectsCampground Road (County Road 34).The present-day subdivision street Tharpe Drive was part of the Fields land, and Hurricane Creek runs through one tract of land Alexander Fields owned at the time of his death.Their home was very near Dean Church Cemetery, but family members said they were buried in a family cemetery in a wooded area, the graves marked only by wooden markers.Old mulberry trees were near the gravesites. There were a number of graves including the family slaves. The last of our family who knew the whereabouts of the graves died in the 1960s. Alexander Fields’ wife Sinia Fields was a daughter of Moses Matthews, and Sinia was buried in 1888, near her parents in Union Baptist Cemetery in downtown Ozark. If anyone has seen or heard of unmarked graves in this area, I would greatly appreciate your contacting me at [email protected]
