Field/Wissler Marriage, Waterloo Co., Ontario, Canada

By Liz Brown October 13, 2013 at 10:35:54

This clipping (undated) is in a scrapbook kept by my great-aunt Helen Oliver Robertson. The newspaper was "The Express", no location given.

"G.W. Field, B.A., of the firm of Coffee, Field & Wissler, barristers, etc., Guelph and Elora, was married on Thursday afternoon last to Miss Elizabeth Wissler, second daughter of the late Sem Wissler, Esq., of Salem. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride. Rev. Hugh Rose, M.A., pastor of Knox church, of this village, officiated. Mr. Henry Wissler, the junior member of the said firm, was groomsman. Miss Mamie Wissler, only daughter of John Wissler, Esq., Reeve of Nichol, supported the bride. She was acknowledge to be one of the prettiest and most vivacious bridesmaids gracing these interesting ceremonies in this section. The wedding guests comprised only the near relatives of the bride. After the contract had been made, the party enjoyed a lunch, and then drove to the G.T.R. depot here to meet the 3.32 p.m. train. The happy couple boarded the car amid a shower of rice. A number of handsome gifts were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Field. Mrs. Field has many friends in Salem and Elora who will miss her society. She has a very sociable disposition and will be found an invaluable addition to social circles in the royal city. [Note: Guelph is known by this term] Mr. Field is well known in this village. He first introduced himself as the headmaster of the high school, and later on he opened a law office, closing it only to take a higher position in Guelph. The Express extends its warmest congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Field, and wishes them happiness and prosperity in their new estate."
