Looking for information about the Herman Firestine family that lived in St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., MO.Their name was changed from FEUERSTEIN when they came into the port of New York.In Germany, Herman had been a member of the Ulhanen Lancers, serving as personal guards to King Wilhelm. He invented a sight for guns which was later used by the Krupps Munitions in Berndorf, Austria.
He came to America to prevent his son from being conscripted into military service as he had been.
Herman was said to be born somewhere near Hanover, Germany.Exactly where?- I have not been able to find!
When looking for the family in St. Jo, MO, I also found another Firestine family living, at times, next door or within a block or so from each other. Some of the names of those Firestine mmbers are Conrad, Rose, Rosina and Frank.Ironically Herman's wife's name was Rosina (Arnot), and his son's name was Franz Heinrich (he went by Frank Henry). There might possibly be a connection in these two families.
I am anxious to share and learn more about these families. Please contact me for further information or to share your information.Thank you for your time.Carol Groover
