I am looking for the family/children of William Albert Fitzer who was actually born, William Albert "DOLBY", 15 April 1916 in Stillwell, Adair Co OK. His death was 7 July 1981 in San Bernardino CA.Albert is my Uncle, but was never known to our family as he was apparently adopted by Joseph & Hattie (Peal) Fitzer who lived inJoplin, Jasper CoMO. He was the biological son of Nora Jackson Holland & William C Dolby. Here is the sad story.
Nora Jackson Holland married William C Dolby 11 Jan 1915 in Adair Co OK.It was her 3rd marriage (Widowed twice) and it was his 3rd marriage (widowed once and divorced once). William was already 56 years old when Albert was born and Nora was a young 31 years old.Albert was born the following year in 1916.My Mother, Essie Mae Dolby came along 19 Sep 1918.This was the year of the great flue epidemic and Nora died Oct 11, 1918,leaving 4 children from her previous marriages and Albert & Essie from this marriage.William C Dolby couldn't handle the situation very well and he left OK taking Albert with him.Albert was his only sone and he was so very proud of him.He placed my mother Essie, into the care of her Aunt (sister of Nora) and that was the last the family ever saw of him.He did write a time or two and informed them that he was living in Joplin MO, with or near, the Joseph Fitzer family. I'm assuming he had entrusted the care of his son Albert to Joseph & Hattie.Albert is on the 1920 Census with the Fitzers, listed as Albert DOLBY, a "boarder", In 1930 he's listed with them but this time as an adopted son, Albert FITZER.Our family was notified that my grandfather had died in December 1920, but they didn't tell us where he died and I've never found his grave. From that point on I believe Albert was given the FITZER name. His SS card was issued in Joplin MO in 1937 under the name of Albert Fitzer.
I have no idea if Albert was ever told he was born a "DOLBY" and it makes little difference now.My mother is deceased now but she tried several times to find him without any success. We think that Albert married a girl by the name of Clydene but thats purely conjecture on my part, and someone in my family was told that he might have been in the Navy.None of us know if he had any children or not - but just in case he did, I hope they see my message and contact me..Just to say HI!
