Benjamin Fitzpatrick, a lawyer, cotton planter and politician,was born 1802 in Greene County Georgia and died 1869 in Coosa County, Alabama.He was governor of Alabama from 1841 to 1845.He was later a senator from Alabama and refused the Democratic vice-presidential nomination with Stephen Douglas in 1860.He resigned from the Senate when Alabama seceded in 1861.His parents were William Fitzpatrick (1754-1807) and Celia Anne Phillips (1764-1809).He was raised by his older siblings: Joseph Fitzpatrick (1785-1841) m. Sarah Terry Elmore was born 1805 in Montgomery,Alabama and died 1837 in Wetumpka, Coosa County, Alabama.She and Benjamin Fitzpatrick were married in 1827 at her father's estate, Huntington, in Autauga County, Alabama.Her parents were Gen. Benjamin Fitzpatrick married Aurelia Rachel Blassingame in 1847 and they had one son, Benjamin Fitzpatrick (1854-1892)married Evelyn Hewitt Shepherd. It also seems that Benjamin Fitzpatrick had another son Benjamin (d. 1865, CSA, married Louisa Jane Thigpen) with Mary Ann Bunkley, widow of Francis Burgy, in 1826.The next year, she had a daughter with Henry Barnes Goldthwaite.Goldthwaite and Benjamin Fitzpatrick were law partners.
