Mary Polly Koontz
Henry Koontz, born abt 1763, is probably the brother of
Mary Polly Koontz. He lived in Rockingham Co., near a Balser/Palser Counse/Koontz. Henry moved to Greenbrier Co. about 1793, Balser moved nearby abt. 1806. He migrated to Kanawha Co. and Nicholas Co's, VA. We have a copy of Mary Polly and John Fitzwater's marriage bond with Balser's signature on it, retrieved and shared with us by Karen Nabours. John Fitzwater and Mary Polly live near the Koontz siblings, children of Henry Koontz.
If anyone has information about Henry and Balser and where they came from prior to Brock's Gap, Rockingham Co., please do share with us. Henry's descendants have DNA matching a George Kuhns b 1811 m. Elizabeth Birkey and living in the 1850 US Census in Paint Twshp, Somerset Co., and the 1870 US Census in Westmoreland Co. We are trying to find a documented connection between Balser and Henry, and George b 1811.
They may also be related to the Counce's in Tenth Legion, Rockingham Co., VA. Balser is not the same as the Balsers' in Frederick Co., Maryland. However, he did live in Frederick Co., Virginia. There are many Koontz's in the Shenandoah Valley, but we cannot find a connection to any of them. Henry and Balser seem to stand alone, and living nearby each other.
Christian Kouns m. Anna Lamp may also be a relation to Henry and has the same migration route from Brock's Gap to Greenbrier, ending up in Gallia Co., OH.
George Koontz m Margaret Keenan and lived in Monroe Co. and may also be related. Balser had a land transaction with this George.
Henry Koontz m. Susan Unknown is not to be confused with Henry Koontz m. Elizabeth Bowyer of Monroe Co. VA, although they may be related. Henry m. Susan lived at Sinks and Henry m. Elizabeth lived at Gap, in Monroe Co.
Most if not all of Henry m. Susan's children lived in Nicholas and Kanawha Co's.
