I am a gr grandson of Elizabeth Flanders, who was a daughter of Aziba/Azoba Flanders, who I think was a 4th cousin ofEuretta Taylor (FLANDERS) Bassett.Elizabeth Flanders was deaf and was sent to live with "relatives" in northern Illinois between 1850 census of Vermont and her 1871 marriage to Charles Robinson in Grundy Co., Illinois.I have been looking for those "relatives" and a doctor seemed to be a likely candidate.
These are the two lines:
2106. Euretta Taylor7 FLANDERS (894.Chapin6, 391.Micah5, 162.Richard4, 112.Philip3, 98.Steven, II2, 97.Steven, I1)
1402. Azoba / Aziba7 FLANDERS (655.Benjamin6, 255.John5, 139.Benjamin4, 107.Thomas3, 98.Steven, II2, 97.Steven, I1)
Elizabeth is in her parents household in 1850 in Rutland Co. census, but not in 1860 or 1870 censuses.I found Dr. H. S. Bassett in the 1860 census of Tuscola, Douglas Co., Illinois, but Elizabeth is not with them. She would have been about 17 then.Elizabeth Flanders' mother was Ruth R. Holden and living next door to Dr. Bassett's household is a Holden family, Elizabeth is not there either.Close, but no cigar!
She may have been at a school for the deaf, but I don't know of one.
