I recently started researching the family history of my mate Ben Flanders (he asked me to of course). It turned out to be really interesting, as Flanders isn't a particularly common name it was very easy to trace.
I followed his male line back to his great great great great grandfather, one James Cross Flanders, born 1830 in Kimbolton, Huntingsonshire.
According to one individual on Ancestry.com, James Cross Flanders is the son of William and Ann Flanders of St. Mary, Hunts. William was born in 1811. I found a record of a William Flanders baptised on the 21st February 1812 at 'Old Meeting House High Street-Baptist And Independsai, Saint Neots, Huntingdon, England'. I was wondering if anybody had been searching a Flanders family from this part of the world or if they had come across James Cross himself and they could help me out.
If it's any help i've listed the paternal line of my mate (as it's shown). He wants to find decent from the Dukes of Flanders but I think it's a remote possiblilty. It could be that the name has changed from Flinders as some of the baptisms match up under the name.
