Many, many family stories have circulated about this man
Stories such as: John Flanagan was living in Australia and killed a man. Part of his punishment was either be exiled to United States or Ireland or be put to death.
Another story: John Flanagan was a drummer for either a flour mill or a tobacco company and was killed in a train wreck in the Spring of 1910. His wife, Autie/Audie Flanagan (her maiden name was also Flanagan) was too poor to bring back his body to Texas for burial.
Another story related to train wreck: John Flanagan died in a train wreck in the Spring of 1910, his parents came from back East and took his body to Boston, MA for burial.
Another story: Autie and her parents were living near the Mississippi River and the family was celebrating the new millennium, John Flanagan was in the same place and was invited to supper by the Flanagan family. Soon after, he and Autie/Audie began “courting” and the rest is history.
Another story: John Flanagan’s parents disowned him for marrying Autie/Audie (for unknown reasons).
After John’s death, my great grandmother didn’t talk about her husband John very often. So most of her descendants, including her children, do not know much about John Flanagan.
I have been able to dispel one family story. The family story about the fireworks. I have found Autie/Audie’s family in Lonoke Co., AR in 1900. The family is no where near the Mississippi River. I did find a John Flanagan in the same county. Other than this information I am at a brick wall.
