Fleer archival collection
We at The Historical Society of Pennsylvania have recently completed processing our Fleer Family Papers collection, compiled by Edward H. Fleer and donated to the Balch Institute of Ethnic Studies by Edward’s wife Helen Fleer in 1992. The Balch Institute merged with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in 2002, at which time the collection was transferred to HSP. The collection consists of Mr. Fleer’s research supporting the publication of his family genealogy, History of the Fleer Family, also held within the HSP Library.
The collection materials focus on both the Fleer family, and many other related families, and include genealogical and research records, such as birth, etc. certificates, land surveys, and maps. In addition, the collection contains a fair amount of family papers, such as family bibles; correspondence; diaries and account books; various estate documents; scrapbooks; and an extensive number of photographs, negatives, and slides.
We would like to announce the completion of this project and its subsequent opening for research, as well as to offer to Fleer descendants copies of "History of the Fleer Family, vol. 1, General Introduction," of which numerous duplicates were donated with the collection. We are offering approximately ten copies, and are willing to send them to interested parties, on a first-come, first-served basis, for the cost of shipping.
For more information on this collection, or the duplicate volumes, please contact Laura Ruttum, at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, 1300 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19107. tel: (215) 732-6200, ext. 218.
