Merrit Flippen - Virginia - 1800

Sort of up against a wall and need some info on Merritt Flippen who was from Virginia around the 1800.My great grandfather is William born in Mississippi around 1822, his son, and my grandfather is Walter born 1866 in Mississippi, left MS and went to CA and raised his family there, which is where my father was born (Fred).Anyone have any information on this family.
