Dolphin Ward Floyd, KIA at the Alamo was the sixth child (third son) of Thomas Penuel Floyd and Sarah Beckwith Floyd of Nash County, NC. He was born on Mar 4, 1804 in Nash County. At age 21 he left for Texas. There he married a widow, Esther Berry House. They lived in Gonzales.
His three brothers (John W, Thomas Beckwith and Thomas Penuel,Jr)all moved from NC to GA at some point. John W, my direct ancestor, moved to Merriweather County, GA in 1828, married Oretha Ann Jones in 1832 in Greenville, GA. They lived on Countyline Rd between Merriweather and Troup Counties. They moved to Upshur County,TX in 1857.
Dolphin Ward's oldest brother, John W, named a son after his lost brother. The son was named Adolphus Dolphin Floyd (b.1839, d.1915). He was born in TX and was a CW vet. He had six children, one of whom is my g-g-grandfather, Clifton Vernon Floyd (b.1876, d. 1904). Many of Adolphus Dolphin's descendants are still in TX. I got the chance to meet one of his grandaughters, and a g-grandson a few years ago. My sister found out a guy she had worked with for several years was a "Floyd" too. Small world. Hope this helps.
