Thank you Kirk for this posting. It's a vexing issue for me: who were Sergeant Floyd's parents. I believe they were Charles and Mary Stewart Floyd, and I descend from Charles brother John and Mary's brother John Stewart. I think N J Floyd had it right, but we need to recognize he had a vested interest in having Charles in "his" line. I do not doubt he believed what he wrote. I do too. To that is added our strong and long family tradition on this matter. When John Stewart, Mary's brother, married Mourning Floyd, Charles' niece and moved to Ga in 1792, they maintained financial and social exchanges with the Ky. relations for years. They certainly knew to whom Sergeant Charles Floyd belonged.
I am sending you my summary gen report from FTM's program on the first three generations from William Floyd of Amherst. (It is also posted at my FTM sitehttp://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/t/e/Pat-M-Stevens-iv/BOOK-0001/0013-0001.htmlhttp://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/t/e/Pat-M-Stevens-iv/BOOK-0001/0013-0001.html and I would be happy to send a copy to anyone interested. There is a growing and intense interest in all this as the 200th anniversary of the expedition nears. By the way, Nathaniel Pryor was also a Floyd relation, another grandchild of William Floyd of Amherst.Let me know what you think and certainly what you learn.
