Dolphin Ward Floyd was born March 6, 1804 in Ashe County, NC. He was the son of Thomas Penvel Floyd (no dates) and Sara (Beckwith) Floyd b. 1769, d.1863.
In 1832 he arrived in Texas and settled in a land grant area known as Dewitt's Colony.
He met Esther Berry House, b.March 25, 1808 in Missouri, and they married in Gonzales on April 26, 1832. She died January 21, 1870.
Dolphin entered the Alamo at 3:00 am on the morning of March 1, 1836 with 31 other men from Gonzales. He was given the rank of Private and probably assigned to bolster the north wall defenses.
He died on his 32nd birthday, before dawn, March 6, 1836.
He comes from the same part of NC as my line of Floyds but I have not been able to make a connection with him. FYI, there was a Joseph Floyd who fought for Texas at the Battle of San Jacinto just after the Alamo.
