Dolphin Ward Floyd who died at the Alamo was the sixth child and third son of Thomas Penuel Floyd (?-1815) and Sarah Beckwith Floyd (1769-1863)of Nash (not Ashe) County, NC. He left for TX in 1825, settling in Gonzales. Apparently many of his descendants are still living in and around Gonzales. The children of Thomas and Sarah either stayed in NC, moved to GA and/or moved to TX. Dolphin Ward's oldest brother John W (my g-g-g-grandfather)moved to GA in the mid-to-late 1820s buying land in Merriweather County in 1828. He married Oretha Ann Jones on April 10, 1832. They moved to Upshur County, TX in 1857, where many descendants live still today. I do not know about the Monroe Dolphin and what connection, if any, with the Dolphin Ward of Alamo fame. I suspect there is a connection since many of Thomas and Sarah Floyd's children settled in GA, with many decsendants there still.
