This is the lineage of Governor John Floyd as given me years ago by a distant cousin and apparently as it appears in a book on the Virginia-Kentucky Floyds.I have not verified it and naturally skeptical about the earlier generations and wonder where the proof ends and the speculation begins:
John Floyd of Wales (b.c1570?) was the father of 4 brothers who came from Wales to Virginia, among them: Nathaniel Floyd born 1600 Wales, came to VA. in his own ship, and died c1674 Virginia, father of: John Floyd (d. 1687), father of: William Floyd, father of: John Floyd "of Accomack" (born VA., d. c1756 Northampton Co., VA., father of: Col. William Floyd b. 1720 who married Abidiah Davis, daughter of Robert Davis (m. Abadiah Lewis), son of Nathaniel Davis and Elizabeth Hughes, daughter of Trader Hughes and Nicketti, daughter of Cleopatra (daughter of Chief Powhattan, the father of Pocahontas).
Col. William Floyd & Abidiah Davis were parents of: Col. John Floyd 1751-83 m. Jane Buchannan, parents of: Governor John Floyd of Virginia, the father of Gov. John Buchanan Floyd
John Floyd "of Accomack" was also the father of: John Floyd Jr. d. c1783 Lunenburg Co., VA., m. Ann Hurst; parents of: Capt. John Floyd III b. 28 Oct 1758 VA., d. 15 Feb 1836 Newberry Co., S.C., married Ann (Nancy) Andrews. Their daughter: Martha Floyd ("Patsy") married Nathan Pitts. These were my ancestors.
Please advise of any errors you find in the above lineage, and there are bound to be some.I'm always a bit skeptical when I see long lineages that include no names of any wives for several generations.
