"Col. G. R. C. Floyd died at Logan, W. Va., May 7, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. S. P. Kelly.Col George Rogers Clarke Floyd was the forth son of Gov. John Floyd, and was born in Montgomery County, Va., Sept. 13, 1810.In 1845 he was appointed by President Polk as a Secretary of State for the Territory of Wisconsin, which position he held until the admission of Wisconsin as a State in 1848.Some time during the fifties he moved to Logan County, W. Va., where he has resided ever since.He served as a confederate soldier during the war, and was a member of the West Virginia Legislature in 1872-1873.He leaves three sons-Hon. John B. Floyd of Charleston, W.P. Floyd and B. Rush Floyd of Logan County, and four daughters-Mrs. S.P. Kelly, Mrs. Thomas Wiles, and Misses Sallie and Letitia Floyd.Col. Floyd was a devoted Catholic."
