Col. William Floyd who married Abadiah Davis was a brother of my ancestor John Floyd II and uncle of Capt. John Floyd III of Newberry Co., S.C., according to his family in Newberry. This information appears in family records fairly early and was published in NEWBERRY GENEALOGICAL (1950) by George Leland Sumner (1881-1956) and more recently in the Bicentenniel Hist. of Newberry.
Below is the Floyd line as given in letters from Mary Fay Campbell Schertz, author of DESCENDANTS OF JOHN & NANCY ANDREWS FLOYD (1973) and who quoted the authors of EARLY FLOYDS OF PIKE COUNTY, ALABAMA AND SOME OF THEIR DESCENDANTS (1971) by James P. Floyd, BS, MA and Hugh L. Taylor, BS, MA, Ed.D., which contained some if not all of this information.
There was an early Floyd genealogy, BIOGRAPHICAL GENEALOGIES OF THE VIRGINIA-KENTUCKY FLOYD FAMILIES (Baltimore, 1912) by Nicholas J. Floyd, that contained much of the same information on the earliest generations in Virginia from Wales, most of which was repeated apparently or duplicated by Marguerite Evans Mathews and Anna Margaret Cartilege in the 1960s.
