Re: Frederick Floyd, Horry County, SC
I'm still researching this family. This was copied from my original post with many changes added. Over the years I have gained some knowledge into this family. But, the mysteries are still there and in my opinion will always be unsolved. Any info will be appreciated. Hopefully, if this info is posted and reposted from time to time, a new face will see it and have something significant to add.
Frederick Floyd was born about 1769. He moved into Horry County about 1785. He would have been about sixteen years old when he arrived. Due to his age I think he was probably born in the northeastern section of NC. There were a good deal of Floyds in that area during the early to mid 1700's. Francis Lewis Floyd married Isabella Johnstone from the Bladen County region of NC. This suggests that the families were there for awhile. His brothers and/or cousins were Francis Lewis, James and Samuel. There were other Floyds as well. Parents are unknown! Some think Andrew Johnson Floyd was the father of all four. No evidence exists to support this claim. A DAR application was claimed to exist that stated Frances Lewis and Samuel were sons of Andrew. If this application existed it was never filed for it is not listed with the DAR. However, Hugh Floyd filed an application in the mid 1800's swearing that Frances was his father and Samuel his Uncle. I have as to who Frederick's wife or wives may have been. It has been suggested to me that her name was Sarah. Frederick died before 1826 and possibly before 1820. I've been told there is a Sarah Floyd listed in the 1820 Census with children that fit into the correct age brackets. This makes Frederick a fairly young man of about 50 when he died.
Children as Follows:
1)Katherine Floyd, born about 1790
married Samuel Garrell(Gerrald),Jr.
2)Samuel Floyd,about 1791, moved to MS
married Avy Jane Nichols. This Samuel would be too young to be the Samuel F. Floyd that sat on the Board of Commissioners in 1802.
3)James Floyd, born 1790/1795, moved to
MS (Would like to know more about this James)
4)Nancy Ann Floyd, born about 1795
married Patrick Lewis. Information in a book written by Mary L. Stevenson suggests that Nancy was a half-sister to her brother Frederick (Fed) and that Fed was a Ferry Keeper in Gallivants Ferry.
5)Patience Floyd, born about 1800,
married Henry Garrell(Gerrald)
6)Wright Floyd, born 1802 married Demaris ? Who was Demaris? Wright and Demaris apparently had six children. Only three have been identified. This is my line, through their son, James Ervin Floyd and Nancy Temperance Elliott.
7)Anna Jane Floyd, born about 1805
8)William Everett Floyd, born 1806
married Martha Jane Ware in GA, 1837
9)Hardy Floyd, born 1809. Went South and married Mardlin Thompson in Randolph Co., Georgia. Both were deceased in their late 30's as well as several of their children.
10)Mary Floyd, born
11)Frederick Floyd, Jr., born 1791 or 1814. The mystery of the Fredericks!!! It stands to reason that a man in the 1790's would follow tradition and name his first born son after himself rather than wait until 1814. On the other hand, an 1814 Frederick Lived next door to Wright Floyd for many years. And Frederick's heir Frederick bought some of his land at auction in 1854. An 1791 Frederick married Sarah Pitman in Robeson County in 1809 and moved his family to McNairy Co., TN. So, who's who?
Any info on these families will be appreciated. I think the answer is out there somewhere. Probably unknowingly hidden away in one of our relatives "stuff' that doesn't care anything about genealogy.
