Yes, I have this information from Mark, as well as some corrections that I sent to him.I also had an email from Mark dated March 26, 2005 which included "I was researching the DAR about a rumor that claimed Frances had filed and stated that Andrew Johnson Floyd was his Father, as well as, the Father of Samuel. If the app exists it has never been filed with the DAR."So once again, I think that this is something "someone said" a long time ago and it has continued to be repeated without any proof or sources provided.
In paragraph (2) Mark stated that the Samuel F. Floyd, Jr. who served on the first Board of Commissioners was listed as an heir to Frederick Floyd.Mark says that again in paragraph (4) but that is NOT TRUE.I believe that Mark was quoting from the 1874 article in The Independent Republic Quartlerly (of Horry Co) by Thomas B. Jones but Mr. Jones was mistaken.I saw that article and wrote for the probate record that he referred to (and Mark cited). The probate record only mentions Samuel Floyd as an heir and there is no middle initial F.And as I previously wrote, this Frederick Floyd was younger than Samuel F. Floyd. This Frederick Floyd (age 26-44), first shows up with a family in the 1800 census, and all his children are under the age of 10 (certainly not old enough to be on the Bd of Comm).
This Frederick Floyd was listed as Fred Sr in 1810 [still age (26-44) but must now be (36-44), therefore born 1766-1744] and there is also a Frederick Jr. who appears to be the son of James Floyd Sr [mentioned in Mark's paragraph (3)]. This is the Fred who md. Sarah Pitman and they moved to McNairy Co TN before the 1840 census.Frederick Sr. is believed to have been married twice and was deceased by the 1820 census when Sarah Floyd, widow, was enumerated. It was probably after her death when the division of property took place in 1842.I have done extensive research on the heirs of this Frederick and find it highly probably that the Samuel Floyd who moved to Simpson Co, MS by 1824 is the heir of this Frederick Sr.
In paragraph (3) Mark is mistaken when he listed a child of James Floyd Sr. as Samuel.Several people mistakenly read some of the records of Lemuel as Samuel. The children listed as heirs in the probate file of Elizabeth were Lewis, Pugh, Lemuel, James L., Dicey, Elizabeth (wife of Henry Elliott), Frederick, a daughter (Mary?) who md. James Elliott and a daughter who md. John Johnston (Celia Ann?).
This is probably more "thoughts" than you wanted but it helps to continue to post the latest research so that errors, all made in good faith, can be corrected.
