In a book about Floyds of Eastern VA, I saw a reference indicating that at one time members of the Floyd family lived in Beeston Castle. Anticipating a possible connection, I wrote to an archivist in Clwyd, in NE Wales. I was referred to the archivist of the adjacent county of Cheshire, in NW England, where the ruins of the castle are located.
I was given a reference to Omerod's HISTORY OF CHESHIRE, vol.II, pp 269-275, which contains some history of the castle and the pedigree of the Beeston family. Medieval owners are said to be Fitzhugh, Bunbury and Beeston families. No reference was found to the Floyd family or to any of the Welsh derivatives of that name. Of course, many families lived in and near castles during those years when little safety could be found elsewhere.
