Notes: I have also referred to Equity 1827 in Newberry Cty, SC Equity Records 1818-1844 Will Book M & N with Annual Returns, Will Book I, and Miscellaneous Annual Returns by Sandra J. Lee, M.D. There is a reference on Page 66 where "Thomas Leverett died possessed of 390 acres on Bush River bounded by Benjamin Butler, Caleb Pitts, Samuel Johnston. The land remained in possession of the widow Temperance until her death 25 March 1824.All of the children were children by both Thomas and Temperance Leverett.Ann Floyd widow of Newberry...10 Oct 1795...left her daughter Temperance wife of Thomas Leverett several negroes." On Page 157: EQUITY BOX 26 PACKAGE 14 Elizabeth Floyd vs. Washington Floyd Adm of Jefferson Floyd dec and infants Elizabeth C., Leonard C. and Cotters B. Floyd (guardian George G. DwWalt).Bill for partition. Filed 26 April 1840. Jefferson Floyd died intestate September 1939 leaving widow Elizabeth and three infant children...Elizabeth C., Leonard C., and Cotters B. Floyd.Jefferson Floyd had bought 369 acres from James and William Newman for $5000.The land was bounded by Richard S. Cannon, Daniel Mangum, and Joshua Davis.Washington Floyd Adm. had paid off the note and there were proper execution of titles.
The only reference to "Taby" as being the w/o Charles Pitts who died in Pendleton, S.C. is the Will of Charles.I, too, am wondering if there is a connection of the Newman and Pitts families somewhere in all of this.
