Virginia:I note that you are a frequent contributor to the Floyd site. I have an extensive Floyd F.T. and have some early Floyd entries, inherited from a relation, Thomas Hope Floyd of England. Much of this info was extracted in Dublin from the Protestant records there just before the archives were destroyed in 1928. One thing not well known is that the Floyd name only evolved during the reign of James 1 and evolved from the name or title of Lloyd which mean "the hoary one" in Welsh. Hence there evolved 32 Lloyd families instantly where none had existed before. Floyd (or Ffloyd, floyde, flood, even fluit (in French) were created soley by the attempt to convert the gutteral Schlloyd into the local dialect - be it Gloustersgire, Chesire, Lancastrian or whatelse. Willy Floyd, descended from Sir Richard Vaughan who was knighted at Agincourt and beheaded at Powys Castle.
