Clyde, Thanks for the info. It clears up a lot for me. Are you sure that Dr. Sam divorced Caroline Crane? I have never heard anything about that. Also I read the (microfilm) newspaper article that mentioned her death , it simply stated that Mrs. Samuel Fluitt, wife of Dr. Samuel Fluitt died that morning (dated Jan 1899). There was nothing else, it was only one sentence. Dr. Sam apparently raised three of his grandaughters after their mother's (Lillian May Fluitt wife of Wesley Book )death in 1896. The girls are listed in the 1900 census.
CALCASIEU PARISH 1900 CENSUS DEQUINCY, LAWARD 6 Name rel. to head Fluitt , Samuel B. head Laura J. daughter Ida (grand?) daughter Louiza J. Desrie E
Laura Jane was Dr. Sam's youngest daughter by Caroline. Desrie should be Desire Emmaaka "Daisy".I don't have much info on their father , Wesley Book. If you happen to have anything to share I would appreciate it.
Next question, Do you know anything about a newspaper article that states that Dr. Samuel Fluitt shot and killed a man ? It starts like this: The Monroe News-StarMonday, August 8, 1910 Killed By Doctor. Section Foremen on the Louisiana Central, Shot. Columbia, La., Aug. 8. - It has just been reported here that Dr. B.S.Fluitt, a prominent physician of the Ninth Ward of this parish, shot a man by the name of Connelly at 1 o'clock this afternoon.
I am sure I will have more questions but that is all for now as this posting is quite long already. Thanks, KP(email@example.com)
