My 3rd great grandfather was Harmon Daniel King (c. 1805-1906). All I have known previously was that he was supposedly born in Charleston, SC, sometime between 1800 and 1814, and lived most of his long life in Union Co., NC.
I just got a letter from a cousin who sent me some information from letters written by some of his grandchildren long ago. The letters state that Harmon King's father was also named Harmon Daniel King and that he was born in England, but came to America with General Lafayette (from France?) to fight in the Revolutionary War. He settled in S. C. though made a brief sojurn in Alabama. He is also supposed to have been a minister.
His wife was named Betsy or Bettie (probably Elizabeth) Flye, (it was spelled "Fly" in one of the letters) and they were married in South Carolina. Her father was Jessie Flye and her mother, before her marriage, was Elizabeth or Betsy Rochelle. Both of them were supposedly from France.
I would be most grateful if any of you could give me any information on these folks.
