JW Fly -reply to your reply on Sooter vs Cherokee & Capps
Hi Jim,
I do appreciate your response.I was not sure, but I thought the Sooter family was some degree of Native American. This is what you have conirmed to me - correct?
Also, I had another call from the archives and they have found one more place to look.I will let you know when I hear.
The reason that I am contacting the archives is because they have a vast amount of info on Native Americans and also several private collections of info.
I would like to clairfy the time frame we are looking at and why that particular record is coming up amoung the lost. That was about the time frame that the fire accord that burned up the 1890 census among other things. It appears that some NA records got burned up too.
Washington would have a copy of these type records. Listen, Jim, the person that called me on the phone was so interested in this.I have NEVER had anyone call me from the archives about anything. So, we know by this that he is still looking.
Now, I am very aware of Nimrod Capps.I am glad you told me that.Eery bit of info on this helps everyone. I will find the info on Nimrod and I will post it on this site for you. There is no reason to keep going in circles when there is someone that knows some of these people that are being named.Nimrod Capps is not part of my Capps nor is ne part of Anna Fly Capps descendents. So, you can eliminate those two families.
I do understand about Vinta, Oklahoma. That is where descendents of Lemuel Stout migrated to.2 of his granddaughters lived there.I have been told that they did have NA roll numbers but the government cancelled them out.
Now, it really doesn't matter who is connecting to who as far as Elisha's line. The mmost important thing is to see what these records are all about and hopefully they will show up.
I would think that every person that descends from my Capps and Fly connections would be fantastically interested in this.
Now, correct me if I am misunderstanding you.Jeremiah's daughter, Martha married Edward Sooter. So, both of them did have NA backgrounds of some sort which would be more than enought to have their children who are Jeremiah's grandchildren want to file a claim for what ever.Correct?
Now, the cover sheet that I have in front of me ends with est. Sooters
then gives a town in Arkansas.
Then the typewritten sheet sats United States, Indian Territory, Northern District, correct?Tahlequah was in the Northern District. The man at the archives told me that and one of his serches was in the info that thy had in this area.He did not limit his search to just one thing. He did a vast amount of research for me.
You might tell Leressa that I probably have a sheet of info on Nimrod Capps.Which I will post.
Actually, I was not saying that Jeremiah or the Sooters were full blood at all. What I mean was that the letter implys that as you read it.I as well as you have read this thing at least 5 million times.Well, the more you read it the more questions pop up in your head!
Thanks for the concern about my health.I have improved so much. The doctor did tell me that I have some memory loss and he doesn't know if I will get it back or not.It affects the ability to recognize numbers and adding and subtracting. Also, there are words that I want to write and I cannot picture in my mind how they are suppose to be spelled.I think I am getting better in this area.
FMF is a real dog of a disease.I pray that none of the people that post here or on the Capps site will ever experience this.
Take care, Jim.I will get back with you and do apreciate your speedy reply.
Your friend,
Joyce
