Joplin Globe, January 5th, 2003 Ronald Dale Fly Ronald Dale Fly, age 69, of Omaha, Neb. passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2004.
Ron graduated from Joplin High School with the class of 1952. He worked as a regional claims examiner with national Indemnity Insurance for 25 years.
He served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1958 and holds a current membership in the Marine Corps League, South St. Louis Detachment, St. Louis, Mo. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catherine Fly; sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Merilyn Fly, St. Louis, Mo., Stephen Fly, Omaha, and Keith and Debra Fly, Omaha; brother and sister-in-law, Major Jerry D. and Pat Fly, Carlsbad, Calif.; grandchildren, Bryan, Sarah, Kaylee and Nicholas Fly; niece, Sharon Fly.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, 1001 North 29th Street, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Burial will be in Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Braman Mortuary, Omaha.
Ron and family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Good News Bears, Inc. 3223 North 45th Street, Omaha, Neb. 68104. Ron has devoted much of his time and effort to this group to help underprivileged and troubled youths to aspire to good works. The family would like to express their gratitude to all that have known and shared in Ron’s life for doing their part in shaping his life. Ron was the captain of the ship, and although the seas may have been turbulent at times, he has navigated his ship to a successful and bountiful life.
An interpreter for the deaf will be provided at the church and graveside services
