Bulletin: There's an up-beat to the "Lost" family Bible story. That Bible was known to be in the hands of the late Luther William Fly and wife Mamie (Gurley) Fly of Wichita, KS. Luther had made a trip to Wright Co., MO where he found it in the boarded-up old cabin where Rev. Elisha had lived with Anne (Kennedy) Fly.
After some time had passed from the death of Mamie, the widow, I had asked son Fenton Gurley Fly if the Bible had come into his hands. He was a "blank" on the matter, - knew NOTHING about the existence of such a Bible.
That being the case I reported to the larger family that it must be considered lost, but happily the data had been photocopied earlier in "reverse image" and then photographically re-reversed by my photographer friend, John Scott. We had NOT lost the RECORDS, but it appeared the actual old Bible was lost to the family.
The good news, in short, is that the Fenton Fly family, knowing to look for it by my inquiries, have found the Bible.
I encountered Fenton's son, Christopher Alan Fly, working in the parts department of our local Honda dealer here in Montgomery.I had never met him before, even though I've been friends with his father for years.
Before we parted, he said, "Oh by the way, we found the old Bible in a closet".My inquiries had served as an alertment for him and his family to be on the lookout, so it turned up.
