Mrs. Catherine Ann "Kittie" Burns Fly, RN, 51, wife of Claude Fly and a resident of the Williamsport Pike in the Sawdust Community, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.
A memorial service for Mrs. Fly will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Williamsport United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Smith and the Rev. Larry McGranahan officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
The family will visit with friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Williams Funeral Home Columbia.
The Red Springs, N.C., native was the daughter of Madeline Odom Burns Love and the late Halbert L. Burns of Red Springs, N.C. She was a graduate of Red Springs High School.
She started her nursing career as a Candy Striper then became an LPN.
She received her A.S. degree in Nursing from Columbia State Community College. She served as director of nursing for several nursing homes in Columbia and Southfield, Mich., and was charge nurse for First Floor West at Maury Regional Hospital.
She also was involved in Home Health Care and was affiliated with several local physicians. She was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Sarah Katherine Fly of the Sawdust Community; a son, Nathan Franklin Fly of the Sawdust Community; a sister, Mary Norton of Canton, N.C.; her mother-in-law, Ruth Fly of the Sawdust Community; three brothers-in-law, Frank M. (Suzanne) Fly of Murfreesboro, J. Mark (Kathleen) Fly of Norris and Joe L. Fly of the Sawdust Community; a daughter, Pat Fly of Dallas, Texas; a son, Randy (Donna) Fly of Algood; and a brother, Halbert (Denise) Burns of Shelby, N.C.
