Had an "out of the blue" phone call the other day from Jennifer Lee (McCoy) Ward of La Grange, GA.
Her work on the McCoy family led her to a Hickman Co., TN marriage record that is of interest to us involved with the WHOLE Fly record, and in particular to descendants of "Rev." John (None) Fly, b. 1 Jan 1772. R/N 18
We had heretofore known that "Rev." John first married Sarah Jane Trader who bore him his children before her death in 1808 and of her interment in the to-be Fly-family Cemetery in Fly, Maury Co., TN. Her grave is the OLDEST marked grave known in Maury Co., TN.
We had known that "Rev." John remarried Lydia Newton who had no known-to-us children of her own, but who reared his orphaned childrenby Sarah Jane for many years until her death about 1844. Then "Rev." John married the widow of Elijah C. McCoy, Sarah Lavina (Daniels) McCoy, on 25 Nov 1845
The 1850 Census of Maury Co., TN shows "Rev." John and Sarah with her two McCoy sons, incorrectly showing them as FLYs. They were actually John J. McCoy, b. 1841 and his brother Ed M. McCoy. b. 1845. The 1860 Census calls them "McCoys" again.
"Rev." John Fly, half-Cherokee son of Elisha Fly, sr., the thought-to-have been "Tennessee Long Hunter", and his Cherokee wife, name unknown, died 1 Dec 1855.
His widow in 1855 was Sarah Lavina (Daniels) McCoy Fly.
Now is found in Hickman Co., TN marriages the following: Sarah L. Fly, married John G. Malugin 12 Feb. 1866
Credit for the "find" goes to Jennifer Lee (McCoy) Wade of La Grange, GA. who came to me with the information.
--------------------------- We ALL thank you Jennifer!!!!! ------------------------
Jennifer tells me that my placing HER information in its proper Fly-related "niche"made HER day during our meaningful exchange of information. She CERTAINLY made MY day.
