I would like to say thank you to Cousin Jim for all of his insightful information and, more personally, to get me involved in our name. After a great deal of searching (and by the assistance of Google), I have located a document providing the proof to the Flagium link to our name.

On page 246, please note that Flagium devolved into de Flagie (c. 1180), which then devolved to Flie (c. 1272).
I have also located a church in lower Normandy by the name of St-Germer-de-Fly (c. 1160).
I found this quite intriguing and thought I'd share
