My Printer is on the fritz, so I am hampered by not being able to produce "hard copy" of forum postings or e-mail, for reference in formulating replies. So I've made hasty NOTES for reference. Now to the comment.
Number 87 -Luther Fly married Mamie Gurley, not "Gourley".Consequently, they named their only child Fenton Gurley Fly.Dr. Fenton Fly (Music doctorate) lives here in Montgomery, AL at the present time.I'm pretty sure that the spelling of his son Chris' middle name is like MY son's, - "Alan" - not "Allen".PLEASE NOTE.The LINE given here goes correctly back to Jeremiah, b. ca. 1773, but the latter was emphatically NOT a son of JOHN DIXON FLY, b. ca. 1765.The name "LYTLE" should be removed from ALL references to John Fly, b. ca. 1765 and "Rev." John Fly, b. 1/1/1772.This name is NOT founded in fact for application to either of these two men.It MAY apply to John Fly, b. ca. 1791, the son of John Dixon Fly.
John, b. 1802, correctly called "Captain John" was the son of "Rev." John, b. 1772 and the name "John David IS NOT CORRECT for Capt. John, who was alternately entered in the Confederate military records as "Capt. John J. Fly" and "Capt. John F. Fly" depending on the historian. It would seem that he was conferred "John" at birth with no middle name or initial; the military directed otherwise when enrolling him.Apparently he used an F one time and a J another.
In my hypothesis Jeremiah Fly, b. ca. 1773 (along with his two brothers, Elisha, jr. and "Rev. John") was the son of Elisha Fly, sr. b. ca. 1746 and his Cherokee wife. There are SOME who want to make those three out to be sons of a "William" Fly.There are no other demonstrable possibilities, - hence no way are they sons of ANY John.
Refer to #92 - Mattie Holt. Her "line" suffered omission of Rev. Micajah Fly, father of William Abijah Fly. - Rev. Micajah, Baptist M.G., was son of John Dixon Fly.This line is CORRECTLY laid out below in 98, which restores Micajah to his proper place.
Please note a MISTAKE- out-and-out - Matilda Fly, daughter of Lawrence, first son of "Rev." John, was NOT MARRIED TO PETER LADD.She was married to Jeremiah Hill. The couple was childless. The correct information is that Martisha (Martissia) Fly, SISTER of Matilda, married Peter Burton Ladd.Jeremiah Hill was son of Spencer Hill, Pioneer and friend of the three Fly Pioneers to Tennessee in 1796, Elisha, jr., John and Jeremiah.
I have not commented on others in this posting, which seem pretty generally reported correctly. If anyone wants to know MORE about any of those, please ask me.
