I found these a while ago in the deed books of Maury Co., Tenn.
Deed Book R, page 433: Deed of Gift Oct. 27, 1834.Stephen Hester "in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear unto my beloved grandchildren (to wit) William M. Fly and Sarah Jane Fly" gives...... Wit: Wm. Edmondson,John J. Grey. Signed: Stephen (his X mark) Hester. Proved: Oct. 27, 1834
Deed Book Z, page 598: Maury Co. Tenn: G.W. Fly deed for 158 acres executed by Caleb Fly and others Recorded this 6th day of Sept.1843 & filed ______ at 11 Oct. 40m A.M. _____________________________________________
Caleb Fly, Sr. Mary B. Fly wife of sd. Caleb Fly, Sen. & Eliza Hester sell to George W. Fly for $400, land on waters of Turkey Creek, 135 acres.Bounded by "congressional" line & one other tract being part of the same tract of land..... Bounded (35 acres tract) by Stephen Hester, decd. line, Kenney, Thomas, James Georges (dark & hard to read-BF). Wit: Thompson Fleming, Caleb Fly, Jr. Signed: Caleb Fly, Sr., Mary B. (her X mark) Fly, Eliza (her X mark) Hester Proved: Sept. 2, 1843 Private Exam of Mary B. Fly (the femme covert) ordered Sept. 4, 1843 Exam reported- consent given freely.
These two deeds show that Caleb Fly was married to a daughter of Stephen Hester and possibly Eliza Hester.I don't know how many times Stephen Hester was married, but this Eliza seems to have had a dower right in the land mentioned in the second deed. The first deed gives personal property not land.An examination of all of Stephen Hester's deeds and a possible will might shed more light on these relationships. The grandchildren William M. Fly & Sarah Jane Fly were obviously born before 1834 and Mary B. Hester Fly was still living in 1843.
