would love to know....
does anyone here have any 'family' stories as to why my ggg grandmother, malinda folsom dean, made a conscious decision to renounce being choctaw, marry robert dean, and live life as a 'citizen of the united states' instead of a citizen of the choctaw nation
her sister, emeline folsom robinson, was an enrollee of the choctaw nation
could it have had to do with the treaty of dancing rabbit creek, or just a decision on her part
anyway, the repercussions of that decision are coming back to haunt...i am choctaw, but totally unable to be 'officially' enrolled, while emeline's family are 'official' and 'enrolled'...once malinda cut the ties, or the ties were cut, there was no way for her descendants to do anything but stand outside looking in...anything appreciated...
