Re: Joseph Bellair Fontenot/
Elsie: I too am descended from Joseph Bellair Fontenot - I come down the Fontenot line 3-times on Alcina LeDoux's side and 3-times on Adam Morein's side (my parents). You may be interested to know the Evangeline Parish Genealogical & Historical Society, P. O. Box 664, Ville Platte, LA 70586 is publishing a FONTENOT BOOK. The book should be ready for distribution about the middle of October, in time for the FONTENOT REUNION to be held in Ville Platte. Pre-publication price is $40 for a 650 pg. bk. I had found the Fontenots at the LDS Library in Birmingham. I am very fortunate to have an excellent Southern Research Library in Birmingham and I was able to compile a very nice family tree of my own of the Fontenots and their allied families. The information I have recorded comes from the publications of the Archdiocese of New Orleans (Sacramental Records), Baton Rouge Diocesan Archives (including the church records the Acadians brought to LA), Southwest Louisiana Church & Civil Records by Rev. Donald J. Hebert, Hebert Publications, P.O. Box 147, Rayne, LA 70578, Natchitoches: Abstracts from the Parishes of St. Jean Baptiste & (I drew a blank), by Elizabeth S. Mills, Early Avoyelles Families by the Gremillions, and many others. A lot of Fontenot information I found on Family Tree CDs. Volumes 1, 2, & 3 were especially helpful. Some of the Fontenot family trees on Family Tree Maker home pages are excellent. Ancestors of Eva Marie LaFleur is exceptionally well-researched. Hope you have looked at these. If you need specific information, not otherwise available to you, I will be happy to check my sources and give you the information if I have it. I am a native of Ville Platte, LA. I have lived in Birmingham, AL since my marriage to Edsel Wells in 1954.
