I have ancestor Andrew Craig who arrived inAmerica in 1694 "indentured servant imported into East New Jersey by John Forbes, by headright" (meaning that John Forbes paid Andrew Craig's passage by which arrangement Craig had to work x number of years for Forbes, usually as a farm laborer, and Forbes got x amount of land per person he brought over to America). I know that Andrew Craig was in the vicinity of Elizabeth, New Jersey until his death there in 1739 so I am guessing that Forbes' land was there too. Does anyone recognize this John Forbes? BTW Andrew Craig was a Scot who had been "transplanted" into Ulster (now Northern Ireland) and my information says he left because of religious persecution. Scottish "transplants" were Presbyterians resisting pressure from the English kings to accept church government by bishops ("episcopacy") which is major violation of Presbyterianism. They were called "Covenanters" and some were actually jailed, transported, or killed for this crime. Anyway, ISO John Forbes who resided in Union CO NJ in the late 1600's and early 1700's.
