I'm looking for information on my gg Grandfather John Forshey, birthdate unknown. The records in my family show that he married Adeline Campbell.I just found a marriage record for a John Gamble Forshey and Ada Campbell, of Adams County, Illinois on the internet that I think might be them.My great-grandfather andgrandfather were both born in Adams county, so it would make sense that this record is my great-great-grandfather John's.
From reading the messages on this board and others, it seems likely that the John Gamble Forshey I found in the marriage database is the son of James Forshey and Mary Gamble of Ohio, who moved to Adams county, Ill. If that's so, and he'smy gg granfather John, I think I've just managed to trace my family history back 10 generations just from reading a few message boards!Wow.
The problem is, my family says that our John and Adeline came from Canada, and that John had anglicized his name from something like Jean or Jacques Fourche/Fouche. I'm not sure if that's true or not--the Ohio born John seems more likely. My great-grandfather, John's son, is James Lillis (sp?) Forshey, b. Sept 22, 1879 in Richfield, Illwho married Myrtle Herndon b. Aug 24th, 1880 in Cameron, Missouri. Theirson, my paternal grandfather, was born in Quincy, Ill. in 1916.
Anyway, I'm very new to all this, and hoping someone has some information for me about any of the people I've mentioned or anyone related to them.
