From the Spartanburg Co., SC Minutes of the Court 1785-1799:15/16 Jun 1795: The State against Abraham Fowler & Jacob Fowler.Horse Stealing.A trial prayed by the attorney, and the cause continued until next Court.Again: The State against Jacob Fowler Horse Stealing. The defendant by Samuel Farrow his attorney motioned for a discharged by the Habeas Corpus Act......... The defendant came into Court with Josiah Thornton, Rowland Jenians and William Fowler as his Sureties, and acknowledged to owe the State the sd. Fowler L50 and the sureties L25 each if the Jacob Fowler shall fail to appear to this Court when called.Discharged 13 Jan 1797.
Comment: I think the William Fowler may be the father of Lawson Fowler who married Mary Coxey (or Scarsy??) in Rutherford Co. 1812.I believe William is probably my ancestor.
