Samuel D. Fox, Civil War veteran, New York
Searching for letters, journals, and other personal documents referencing the life and military service of Samuel D. Fox. A ward room steward on the side wheel steamer “Fort Henry,” he had the good fortune to be assigned to the crew of this highly successful blockade runner. During her three years of war service as part of the East Gulf Squadron, she took 11 prizes. Fox survived the war, married twice, and died of a cerebral hemorrhage at Albany, N.Y., on May 8, 1903.
