Mille, We have corresponded before on Ancestry.com.I don't recall the dates, but it was just several months ago. To summarize/recap/and then expand on the topics here is my information. Your husband is a descendant of William Thomas Francis, who is believed to be a son of Captain Henry and Leah ? Francis.I have had contact with at least two others who also claim to be descendants of William Thomas Francis. I wish I had room to lay it out in columns, but I don't so let me see if I can explain the difference between your husband's lineage and the other two that I have lineages of. All of you have Captain Henry and Leah, next all have William Thomas and Susannah Bottom Francis, next all of you have William H. and Delilah Quillen Francis. From there each of you descend from different children of William H. and Delilah Quillen Francis.Your husband descends from James and Mahala Francis. One of the other people descends from Andrew Harrison "Andy" and Elizabeth Hopkins Francis, while the other descends from Chlora Francis, daughter of William H. and Delilah. Chora married Moses Maynard. I would love to get the three of you (descendants of William Thomas and Susannah Bottom Francis) in touch with one another and have you try to come up with a descendant listing for William Thomas and Susannah.Let me know if this is something you would be interested in. I have the following as children of Captain Henry and Leah ? Francis: Henry Jr. John William Thomas Charles Samuel Tabitha I have seen other names such as Catherine, Caleb, Nathaniel, and even others, but I have yet to be shown how these are connected.Another name I see quite often as a daughter is Nancy Ann.I don't believe Nancy Ann is a daughter of Henry and Leah because depending on various dates shown for Nancy Ann, Leah would have been between 9 and 12 when she was born and Henry would have been between 12 and 16. Just to be clear, I am not saying that any of these could not be children of Henry and Leah, I just haven't seen any information that persuades me that they are.
The only known siblings for Captain Henry were John and William. There are records from Montgomery County, Virginia that show that Henry as heir and next of kin received land because John and William had both served and been killed in the French-Indian War. There are a good number of people who believe Henry also had a brother named Samuel, but I have seen no proof. Still others claim that Henry had a brother named Thomas. Some descendants from Thomas changed their last name to France. If Thomas was a brother to Henry they may have a legitimate claim, but I have seen no record that shows Henry had a brother named Thomas.
I am well aware that you and alot of others have Captain Henry's father as William Francis and his mother as Ann. Still others have William Francis and Mary (no last name or Mary Savoy). Others have other names. You and alot of others have Captain Henry's grandparents as Henry and Ann. I would love to know that this is correct or incorrect, but I have contacted a lot of them and not a single one has been able to provide proof.By proof, I mean some record/ document/source other than "just found it on the internet". Unfortunately, that is not proof of anything other than someone has put it on their family tree. Now to Leah Francis' maiden name. You and many, in fact most, on the internet sites have her maiden name as Watson. And it may be, but I have yet to see any proof. Based on information I have I am more inclined to believe Leah's maiden name may have been Hood. Why?I have the will of Lucas Hood, Sr. who mentions three sons. One of which was Lucas Jr.The will also mentions three daughters. In one part of the will only first names are mentioned and one of those is Lena. Another place the last name is provided for two of the three daughters. One of those is Leora Francis. The above information is certainly not proof than Lena/Leora and Leah are the same person. But there are records that a Lucas Hood Jr. transferred 143 acres of land adjacent to Captain Henry Francis' land in Montgomery County, Virginia to Henry. Why would someone transfer (not sold, but given) 143 acres of land unless there was a family relatinship.I believe, but do not have proof, that Lucas Hood Jr. may have been Leah's brother. Well that's the best I can do at this point. I hope I have made everything clear.I do not claim to have all the answers, but I am not willing to just take information off the internet and say that is proof. Please advise your thoughts re this information.Thank you.Joe
