My g-g-grandfather John Francis was born in Ireland and emigrated to the US (Indiana) in the 1850's.I don't know which county that he was from.(One family member has the birthplace as County Cork but I'm not sure of this fact.)
My question is:Which counties in Ireland had the most number of Francises? It might give me a start to search with.
His children were: William, Margaret, James, John, Katherine, Elizabeth, Mary.It could mean that William and Katherine might be his parents'names if they went by the common practice of Irish naming practice.Of course, there are no certainties that the couple actually followed this tradition.
Is Francis a Norman introduced name as I think that I've read about?
