I am researching my great grandfather's Russell line. He was known as Charles William Robins-Russell, adopted son of Alonzo and L.A. Russell of Lowell, Massachusetts whose natural son was Eugene G. Russell. Alonzo and L. A. lived at 12 Coral Street, Lowell, Mass. Was a member of the Lowell Trust Co. and treasurer of the Thorndyke Manufacturing Co. I have been trying to connect with my gr grandfather's true parentage - the family story is that his natural father was William J. Robins, a sea captain, and mother was Marie Louise DeMehurin, a French Hughenot. She was 16 yrs old at the time (1843 ?) in Boston, Mass. and her mother (a widow who escaped the Old Country with two young daughters to the U.S.) disowned her.
But, my gr grandfather's OBIT mentioned that his parents were George W. and Vera Freedman - names our family is not familiar with!
The 1880 US Census has Charles living with Alonzo and L.A. in Massachusetts, but his birthplace is listed as NY. Since my gr grandfather was a newspaper reporter and known to have written some odd stories, I am wondering if he covered up his true parentage.
If anyone has any information on George and Vera, it would be greatly appreciated.
