Location: Sussex County.
Description: Whereas by one patent under the seal of this our Colony and Dominion of Virginia bearing date the 25th day of March 1725 there was granted unto Jones Stokes one certain tract or parcel of land containing 250 acres lying and being then in Surry County now in the County of Sussex on the north side of the Spring Swamp, on the south side Nottoway River and bounded as followeth (towit) Beginning at a live oak by the side of the said swamp thence north 160 poles to a red oak then north 36 degrees west 80 poles to a pine a line tree of John Jones's land then by Jones's lines south 70 degrees west 102 poles to a pine and north 65 degrees west 88 poles to a hickory then south 60 degrees west 50 poles to a red oak a corner tree of Silvanus Stokes's land then by Silvanus Stokes's line north 70 degrees west 33 poles to a read oak then south 39 poles to a black oak then south south east 42 poles to a pine a corner tree of Henry Browns land then by Browns line south 80 degrees east 68 poles to a red oak south 35 degrees east 80 poles to a white oak by the side of the Spring Swamp aforesaid and down the various courses of the run of the saied swamp to the beginning Which said tract or parcel of land was granted on condition of paying our Quitrents and Cultivating and Improveing as in the said Patent is Expressed and whereas Agnes Freeman Widow and relict of William Freeman deceased in which said Agnes the right and title of the said land is since become vested hath failed to pay such Quitrents and make such Cultivation and Improvement and Hamilton Stokes Freeman hath made humble suit to our Lieut. Governor and Commander in Chief of our said Colony and Dominion and hath obtained a grant for the same which he assigned unto Marcus Stokes and by him assigned unto Charles Judkins
