Hi Kay,
I have been looking at this family and I found a record in the 1850 census that I think is her family.
The record occurs in Henderson, Huntingdon, PA
Peter Merritt, 40, Laborer, b. PA
Cath, 35, b. PA
Sam, 5, b. PA
Joseph, 3, b. PA
Harriett, 1, b. PA
Andrew Freidley, 50, Laborer, b. PA
Elizabeth, 32, b. PA
William, 12, b. PA, attending school
David, 10, b. PA, attending school
Andrew, 8, b. PA, attending school
Eve A, 4, b. PA
Margt, 2, b. PA
Geo, 1/12. b. PA
Cath, 19, b. PA
(Elizabeth appears to be a second wife and probably mother to all children but Catherine which would explain why she is listed after the other children instead of in birth order. However father is most likely Andrew b. abt 1800 in PA.)
Also for her husband James R Gregory b. abt 1818 in West Chester, PA I am guessing that Alexander Gregory is his father. There are only two Gregory families living in Chester County in the 1820 census John and Alexander. Both have sons in the 0-10 range but James names his first child Alexander which makes me think that is his line.Still too early to say that is the line but it seems like a good clue.
