I don't think your John is in my tree.It may help if you give more details such as where he died and how old he was as most people record the siblings of their ancestors but do not always know whom they married or when they died.
Having said that, I found a John H Froud amongst the paper I've collected and I'll speculate on this information. He died in Woolwich district in 1938 age 71 but I have no corresponding birth information - they did not have to be registered until a few years after he was born.In the 1901 census there was a John Froud who was a licensed victualler age 37 born in Rotherithe residing in Poplar and married to an Annie age 25 born in Plumstead.Poplar is just up the river from Woolwch and Plumstead is in Woolwich district. They had a daughter called Violet age 1 born in Poplar; they also had a son called Johnage 4 born in Hackney - it could be he was called by another name to save confusion with his father? In Freebmd John Henry Froud is shown as marrying Millicent Lavinia Holland in St Olave District Jun 1895 1d 586.St Olave covers Rotherhithe when the John Froud in the 1901 census was born.Could Millicent have used Annie as her by-name? There is a difference in age of about 4 years between the John H Froud in Woolwich and the John Froud in Poplar but this may not be crucial as it is not only ladies who mislead about their age. The same goes for changing names especially transposing their middle and first names.
I am sorry I cannot give you any certain information, only leads for you to follow and evaluate. You may have to look up the parish records for Rotherhithe to see if he was baptised and this would give his parents. If he was the John H who married Millicent then the marriage certificate should give the names of their fathers. You may want to get the birth certificates for your grandfather and his siblings as these may confirm the first name of their mother.
