Re: Fulton is Hilton in Maryland
I agree with you. There are severl Fulton/Baltzell marriages besides Charles I to Fulton. But the way that names were written in either marriage license or in a church, including handwriting - it is very difficult to be sure exactly what the surname was. I was looking at microfilm and some is difficult to read.
I wish I took better notes and my handwriting was better. Now two years later, I can't fully trust my notes. I know more now & it is obvious that I failed to record full names, just surnames and did not includ dates.
But in several instances it seems that what one record has as Fulton, another has as Hulton, including that one to Charles.I have no doubt that there were Hulton were in the same area, but that name is much rarer. It apparently is also Hitton & Hilton.
I think I will re-order the LDS microfilm of Frederick Evangelical church. I think there is a LDS one for for marriage Licenses (it not help on the early ones). Some of the same information appears on the microfilm of the Graceham Moravian church, which kept some records on non-member neighbors.
My John Lefever married May 12 1800 Catherine Martz and besides recorded in Evangelical was the same in the Moravian. It also is recorded in teh Evangelical as,
"In the house of Jacob Meddert among friends". The ONLY other Evangelical record about the same time 1801 or 1802 is a Juliana ? involving a Baltzell marriage - it states in the home of Jacob Meddert. At that same time period Meddert females married Baltzell,
What apperar in our probable connections is Barbara and even Barbara Baltzell who married William Lewis Jackson. (about 1816?.He died and she married "Icenogle". another early family that married earlier a Balsen name.
I think my missing wife of Elias Lefever, one Mary Selome b 1748 or 1749 may have been Mary Selome Wotring. Her sister was Julianna / Juliann as later some Baltzell are Juliana , etc.
