Fury, Fuery Families Co. Clare, Co. Limerick and Co. Kerry
In County Clare along the Shannon there were originally approximately 200 years ago seven Fury or Feury families. They were all related. The other Fury families were in Galway or the Clare/Galway border. Our family was at Lackyle North near Ladasheeda, which at one time was also called Poundstreet. The earliest we have is a James Fury born in 1801, his father was a Thomas Fury. We suspect that his wife or mother was a Griffin, probably a Bridget or Mary with a Thomas Griffin as the father. The Griffin family were neighbours at Lackyle North. Around 1845 in the Parish of Killofin, Co. Clare there were four Fury families we know of James and Thomas, who are our direct line, a widow Fury, whom we believe is the wife of a brother of our James Fury born in 1801. There was also a Bridget Fury at Ballyartney. Our James Fury had five children we know of all born at Lackyle North. James b. 1837,Mary b. 1839 ,Michael b.1840 Thomas b. 1843, Hanora b. 1843 and a daughter, who entered the convent. Except for Michael. Hanora and the lass, that entered the convent, all the other siblings and their families ended up in the Glin and Glengragra area of County Limerick. Members of the Griffin family had earlier moved to Glengragra, Athea Co. Limerick from Co.Clare. Hanora married a Denis Mulvihill and this family was in Movyane,Co. Kerry. We believe that these siblings had a first cousin Mary Fury born in 1840, who later married a Patrick Griffin and also lived in Glenagragra. Regards Mary
